Hi, I'm Katie, an integrative therapist and I'm here to support you. I'm trained to work with a wide range of issues and people.
If you have any questions, please ask.
Hello there, I'm Robert, an integrative therapist with a multitude of experience. I am able to work with a wide range of people and have specialist training in LGBTQ issues.
Thrive is thrilled to include functional aromatherapy during client work and to work with Roxanne who is a huge inspiration.
I am a therapist licensed in the UK with over 4 years of professional work experience with the NHS and in private practice. As an integrative therapist I’m trained in the main disciplines of psychodynamic, Person Centred and CBT. I am also qualified in REBT and Psychoanalysis. I mainly use CBT & REBT as that has demonstrated many times over to be the most effective approach for working with anxiety.
My areas of expertise are in helping clients with anxiety, self-esteem and overcoming abuse.
Therapy is absolutely about talking through your problems, but that’s just the beginning. When you develop a relationship with a caring, attuned therapist you will find new ways to solve problems, heal old wounds, and change the way you live your life.
Working as a therapist and supporting hundreds of clients over the years has been an immense privilege. I have a deep passion for helping people through the emotional impact of life’s challenges such as relationship struggles, anxiety, the death of a loved one and Divorce/Separation. Therapy, in my experience has helped many people heal emotional wounds, reconnect with life and move forward towards a happier life. Sometimes we need one person to believe in us, even when we can't believe in ourselves. My clients have said that my sense of humour and warmth has made counselling far easier for them.
Please note that I work with adults. I am inclusive of everybody and fully support these communities: Bisexual allied, Body Positivity allied, Gay allied, Lesbian allied, Non-Binary allied, Queer allied, Racial Justice allied, Sex worker allied, Transgender allied and Vegan allied.
I am able to help with a wide range of issues, please see below for some examples, please note that this is not an exhaustive list. Depression, Anxiety and Phobias, Relationship Difficulties, Life Transitions, Difficulties with Self-Esteem, Attachment issues, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Professional/Career Issues, Medical and Health Concerns, Stress Management, Sexual Abuse, Spirituality, Gender Identity, LGBT Counselling, Grief, Loss, or Bereavement, Low self confidence, Emotional abuse, Domestic violence, Abortion, Narcissistic abuse, Postnatal depression, Separation and divorce, Sexual issues
In my spare time I enjoy boxing, I train with an excellent coach that I can highly recommend - David Entwistle.
I love lifting heavy weights - it's great for your confidence just like boxing and so empowering!
Robert is an former director of a nationally recognised leisure business. After many successful years developing the business, a period of extreme stress led to serious health concerns . Having volunteered for charities such as MIND as a telephone and face to face counsellor, Robert took the decision to take a step back from the business world and has formalised his position as a counsellor. Robert is trained as an integrative therapist, which means that he is able to work in the way that is most suitable for his client. Robert generally describes his methodology as ”Humanistic with a Humouristic twist”.
Thrive is so happy to have Robert as part of the team, his compassion, acceptance and ability to 'see' people is beautiful.

Some previous clients have kindly reviewed our work together, these are some of the things that they have said:
"I have seen many counsellors over the years, you were the one who helped me the most."
"Katie was extremely patient and I felt in her a real depth of understanding of things unspoken, I had complete trust in her and could speak freely. She gave me a second chance in life."
Katie is so approachable and supportive, I was a bit nervous to try therapy through here as I was thinking what I was struggling with was perhaps a bit insignificant - but Katie has listened with kindness and been so insightful about things I hadn’t even thought about could be underlying, and shared great tools to help me through them. Would totally recommend to anyone, thank you! E, London
Katie is always so lovely and friendly. Makes it so easy to speak to and is really good at giving constructive help. Thank you Katie. Anonymous, online
I warmed immediately to Kate in person and through the journal/message functions. Kate listens attentively and validates my feelings, she asks questions to keep our interaction going when I dry up or lose my train of thought.
Katie holds space for me and I look forward to our sessions despite the mostly grim nature of their content. She has a warmth and attuned sense of humour that make opening up easier. Anonymous, online
Katie has been my wonder women. I’m extremely grateful for the guided and safe journey she has taken me through. She allowed me to feel comfortable from the very beginning, whilst encouraging personal growth and a deeper perspective of my situation. I cannot recommend Katie enough and I certainly will be choosing her again in the future! S, Newcastle
"I'm so glad that I went to see Katie, from the first day until the last Katie made me feel so welcome. She was so easy to talk to and went at my pace. Can't say enough positive things about Katie or this will end up being an essay." A, Taunton
"Katie is kind, a great counsellor and she is a credit to herself and therapy." OP, Taunton
"Thank you for helping me when I felt at my lowest and doubted myself. Life is a difficult journey and you have made me realise and acknowledge "shame" and my patterns of behaviour. I have started to believe in myself again and be assertive and heard. I have really valued your warmth, active listening, honesty, reflections, support, patience and endless compassion! These qualities are held in the highest regard." A, High Wycombe
"It's amazing to think 2 months ago I was probably in the worst place mentally I've ever been. I didn't want to exist anymore! Yet 2 months later I'm probably in the best mindset I've been in a very long time! I just want to thank you for everything and making me see things differently. I just needed that gentle nudge to clarify things for me. Plus I feel safe that if I do have a wobble you are there to guide and help me through it." JM, Newcastle
You may have some questions, most people do and if there is anything that you would like to ask that I don't have here please reach out.
Q. How long is a session?
Each session is one hour.
Q. I tried CBT and it didn't help me, what can I do?
CBT is just one of the techniques that we are able to use, there are many, many more and not every approach suits everybody. We tailor our approach to fit with who you are and what you need as an individual.
Q. What does a typical session look like?
It is very different for everyone. It begins with talking and us getting to know more about you. We go at your pace and don't 'pry' or 'force' you to talk about anything. Some people prefer a directed and structured approach with goals being set and other people prefer to talk and explore what comes out and bring dreams, spirituality or any other issues into the 'room'.
How long will I need therapy for?
For as many (or few) sessions as you feel suits you. There is no minimum number of sessions set by Thrive. Some people only need a few and others might be working for over a year. We review our work regularly to ensure that you are getting the best from sessions. Ultimately you are the expert on yourself!
